Hybrids have better fuel efficiency and conserve more energy, thus emitting fewer carbon

emissions. Less Fossil Fuel Dependency: Since hybrid vehicles are able to utilize the high

voltage battery pack and electric motors for propulsion, they dont rely on fossil fuels as

much as standard gas cars.Quite simply, a hybrid combines at least one electric motor with a

gasoline engine to move the car, and its system recaptures energy via regenerative braking.

Sometimes the electric motor does all the work, sometimes its the gas engine, and sometimes

they work together. The result is less gasoline burned and, therefore, better fuel economy.

Adding electric power can even boost performance in certain instances. With all of them,

electricity comes from a high-voltage battery pack separate from the cars conventional 12-

volt battery thats replenished by capturing energy from deceleration thats typically lost

to heat generated by the brakes in conventional cars. This happens through the regenerative

braking system. Hybrids also use the gas engine to charge and maintain the battery. Car

companies use different hybrid designs to accomplish different missions, ranging from maximum

fuel savings to keeping the vehicles cost as low as possible.A hybrid car uses more than one

means of energy, combining a petrol or diesel engine with an electric motor, and the two

systems work with each other to move the vehicle. This allows the car to burn less gasoline,

achieving better fuel efficiency than a traditional engine that solely uses fuel does.

Electric power serves to boost the performance of the engine. Hybrids, except for plug-in

hybrids, charge the battery through its internal system, so they do not need recharging.

Plug-in hybrids are a halfway house between conventional cars and all-electric vehicles. So,

they run on both an electric motor and an internal combustion engine but can charge its

battery by "plugging in" to an outside electrical source.

Hybrid vehicles are a stepping stone to the future: To make mobility as carbon neutral as

possible, the automotive industry is turning increasingly to electromobility. However, there

are still a number of challenges with regard to pure electric cars. Hybrid technology

combines the benefits of two different drive systems – the electric motor and the

conventional internal combustion engine.Climate change, increasing emission levels: According

to a study by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, traffic is responsible for 24%

of all CO2 emissions worldwide. That’s why mobility must become carbon neutral – not in the

distant future, but as soon as possible. Reliance on gasoline and diesel engines needs to be

reduced so that fossil fuels can be replaced. They are increasingly being replaced with

electrified drive systems.
However, in many cases, pure electric cars are not able to keep up with conventional

vehicles: They have a smaller driving range, batteries are expensive, which translates into

higher vehicle prices, and, in many regions, the network of charging stations is inadequate.

Hybrid vehicles offer a solution: They combine an electric drive system and an internal

combustion engine. This means that the vehicles can drive further than pure electric cars,

and they consume less gasoline or diesel than vehicles running solely with an internal

combustion engine.
They may also be able to meet the increasingly more stringent limits for passenger cars as

specified, for example, by the EU. From 2021, the EU fleet-wide average emission target for

new cars will be 95 g CO2 per kilometer. And by 2030, this target is to be reduced by a

further 37.5%. Many other countries have also defined strict limits.
