This lecture is a manufactures course required for certification of hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) systems for passenger cars and light trucks. The history of battery technologies will apply charging and repair techniques from first generation to present day EVs. EV technologies have evolved rapidly,
requiring different methods of service for each new generation and system version. High voltage systems are dangerous. Proper safety procedures for hybrid and EV systems are required and emphasized. This course uses actual hybrids and EVs to perform electrical and electronic diagnosis of various systems. Students must have prerequisite knowledge and skill certifications of automotive

Topics to be covered will include batteries, fuel cells, electric motors, controllers, invertors and auxiliary accessories utilized in the Electric Vehicle and Hybrid Electric Vehicle platforms.

Particularities of the cooling and air conditioning system in electric and hybrid vehicles. Thermal/electric engine cooling systems. Cooling systems for the electrical system (inverter/charger). Cabin air conditioning system. Explanation of a scroll compressor. Battery cooling and heating systems Particularities in the workshop when working with air conditioning systems.
Intervention on hybrid and electric vehicles. Legislation, procedures and tools. Electrical risks and legislation. Procedure for de-energising hybrid and electric vehicles. Protection equipment. Maintenance of hybrid and electric vehicles. Models to be studied: Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid, Mitsubishi Outlander and Tesla Model 3.It is therefore designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation. It also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities.
