Rigging courses come in three forms: basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. Before applying for their rigging license, prospective riggers must complete an authorized training. Staff members are trained to perform simple rigging techniques by level I rigging certification.

Types of rigging. Rigging is divided into two classes, standing, which supports the mast and bowsprit, and running, which controls the orientation of the sails and their degree of reefing. Riggers are trained to calculate weight, suspension, and balance. They can control the movements of the items being moved through tight spaces or great heights. The job of a rigger is not easy. Perform specific rigging operations using come-along and chain hoists, reeving, rigging hitches and knots, anchor points, synthetic ropes, wire ropes, chains, spreader bars and equalizing beams, synthetic slings, lifting points, dollies, trollies, winches, bars and levers, rigging jacks, links and rings, plate clamps, and cable dogs/grips.
Be proficient in load dynamics and load weight estimation or determination as they relate to the rigging operation.
Calculate equipment capacities, and applies D/d ratios, vectors, angles, boom angles and load radius as they relate to lifting and/or rigging operations.
