The objectives of this course are to develop an understanding of system support planning, ensuring logistics support is effectively considered in a system from a total life-cycle perspective and to understand the implications of an extended supply chain. The content includes the functions of the various components of logistics, logistics engineering and management, system design for supportability, through to continued assessment of the overall effectiveness of support throughout the system life-cycle. Integration of the supply chain, flow of information, materials, services, human resources and money across the supply chain, coordinating technology across tiered suppliers, creation of trust, enterprise architecture in the supply chain, waste and minimising transaction costs are also addressed.

service in business and commerce.
2. To incorporate and learn the critical elements of logistics and supply-chain management
processes based on the most relevant application in forward-thinking companies.
3. To develop criteria and standards to achieve improved business performance by
integrating and optimizing the total logistics and supply-chain process.
4. To describe the ways to shift the business culture from functional work to overall
process-driven results.
5. To explain the rationale for statistical process control in minimizing or eliminating nonvalue-added elements of the overall logistics process such as the cost of excess
inventory driven by inaccurate forecasting.
6. To summarize the value of focusing on information business logistics systems which
drives improved accuracy and decision-making at all levels of management.
7. To incorporate a meaningful focus on the rate of change occurring in business today,
and more specifically, in business logistics.
8. To work through end-of chapter exercises and “real world” case studies which reflect
the challenges faced on-the-job, while learning new thinking and logistical approaches
for improved business results.
